The Sound of the Sword Dance

The Wind Orchestra of HGD Sveta Cecilija is the musical backbone of the Moreška. Every clash of the swords, every dramatic turn in the story, is underscored by a brass arrangement composed by Krsto Odak in 1937 — one of Croatia's foremost composers — and performed live at every performance to this day.

But the Orchestra's role extends far beyond the summer stage. Throughout the year, the ensemble performs concert repertoire, accompanies civic celebrations, and represents Korčula at regional and national festivals. From march arrangements to contemporary Croatian compositions, the Wind Orchestra carries the musical identity of the island wherever it performs. It is the oldest continuously active musical ensemble in Southern Dalmatia.
