Dalmatian a cappella, UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
Before the iron clashes, there is the voice. Klapa Sveta Cecilija opens every Moreška performance with traditional Dalmatian a cappella song — the art form of the Adriatic coast, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. No instruments, no amplification. Just the harmony of male voices carrying centuries of maritime soul.
Klapa singing is the sound of Dalmatia at its most distilled: melancholic, warm, technically demanding, and entirely communal. To hear it in the stone courtyard of the Summer Cinema, before the swords appear, is to understand something essential about life on this island. The ensemble performs at every Moreška throughout the season and at festivals, concerts, and cultural events across the region.
Twenty-four performances at the Summer Cinema, Korčula. May through October, 21:00.
